Who we are
Number Withheld is run by Alan Huddart, a sole proprietor in Arizona. We make interactive mystery stories played by text message and email. These terms apply to everything you buy from numberwithheld.com. Contact us at help@numberwithheld.com.
Playing a story
You must be 18 or over to book or play. Every player needs a US mobile number and an email address.
Stories are fiction. Characters may write about crime, threats and danger as part of the story. Each story's page says what it contains.
Characters will never ask you for money, bank details, passwords or codes. If a message does, it isn't from us.
Please don't use a story to harass anyone, and don't share other players' numbers. We can end a story if a player abuses a character or another player.
Text messages
Stories are played by text, so to play you agree to receive story texts at the number you give us. You agree by ticking a box that isn't ticked in advance, and then by replying YES to our confirmation text. We send nothing else until you do.
Message frequency varies: usually a few texts a day while a story runs. Msg & data rates may apply. Text HELP for help.
Text STOP to any of our numbers to stop every text from all of them. Text START to undo it. Text PAUSE to hold a story.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Our SMS terms have the details: numberwithheld.com/legal/sms.
Booking and cancelling
You choose the start date when you book. You can move or cancel for free until 24 hours before it starts, and we'll refund you in full.
Within 24 hours of the start, or once it's started, we can't offer a refund, but if something goes wrong on our side we'll put it right.

Gifts
Gifts don't expire. They can be used on any story open to the same number of players, including stories released later.
If the person you gave it to doesn't want it, you can send it to someone else, keep it as credit, or ask for a refund, as long as it hasn't been used. Gift codes can't be exchanged for cash except where the law requires it.
We never text the person you're giving it to. They agree to texts themselves when they redeem it.
Discounts and credit
Discount codes can't be combined. Referral credit is added when the friend you invited finishes their first story, and comes off your next purchase automatically. Credit has no cash value.
The stories are ours
The stories, characters, websites and images are our work and are protected by copyright. Please don't copy or publish them. You're welcome to share your results card.
If something goes wrong
If a story fails because of a fault on our side, we'll fix it, rerun it, or refund you. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid for the story.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona.
